The Beezer

Something I've been working on throughout the week, messing around with different textures a bit. It's a helmet for a goaltender that retired from the NHL years ago nicknamed "The Beezer", which explains all the bees.

Drinking Water

So here is a decent drop of things I have been up too, starting with some personal projects.

7th Round Pick - This is a site started by myself, Chris Hoobler, and my younger brother (whom is yet to post!). Focusing primarily on the Detroit Red Wings. I'm a hockey guy and if you aren't into that kinda stuff you can still take a look at the pictures we are illustrating.

Next up is a batch of freelance work I have worked on.

And last is another personal project which is sort of on the back-burner so to speak. It's an attempt to build a Concept Art portfolio. All the characters back stories are in place, it's just getting around to doing it at this point.

Shark Week

I'll keep this short and to the point.

So I have been wanting to create a Shark Week themed illustration for a long time and finally got around to it. Linework was done with the trusty mechanical pencil on paper and the coloring was done in Photoshop.

I'll update later this week with a couple side-projects I have started.

What's new?

Well, I have been busy doing some commercial freelance work and have had little time to work on personal projects. I have three separate personal ones going on at the moment and the one below is my focus for now. I'm in the early stages of creating 5 characters for a concept art project and have 1 character finished and 1 ready to be drawn out and painted. The last project, the long comic project I mentioned earlier, is getting pushed back a bit as I work on more marketable projects and my story needs some re working anyways.

Here is a project based off of the famous "Shark Week" and my current inspiration of music with a bit of tribal vibe to it.

Phidias Gold paper toy

Here is a project I just finished not too long ago for a gallery show in Boston. My old roommate Wesley Eggebrecht has started up a clothing line which had a launch party at a gallery that including some 30 paper toys designed by 30 different artists. You can check out his site which has links to Facebook, Twitter and all that. Friend, Like, Add, do what you gotta do to follow this because it's gonna be good.

I should have a couple more projects up soon and am in the writing process of a 22 page comic. That's a bit of a ways away at this point though.

Enjoy!

A update, a update!

Alright, where to start. The majority of this work has been posted at other sites I frequently drop by. Sites like The Hallway Show, 36Pyramids, and others. I'll be posting some more stuff I've done soon as well, but I wanted to go the bulk of it out there. Most of it is sketches and quick portraits, a few are projects I did while interning at Root Learning and some are Illustrations for freelance jobs or personal work.

If you, or anyone you know, is interested in what they see and has some project that needs an Illustrator shoot me an e-mail at matthewbyle@gmail.com

MIA

I've been MIA for a while here, eh? I'll throw out a quick summary on the past present and future!

So I now live and work in Northern Ohio (Sylvania) as an Illustrator for a fantastic company called Root Learning. It's been a wonderful experience and I'm learning new things everyday. Because of that though, my personaly work (and the sites that I usually update on a regular basis) have taken a hit.

Fast forward to the present, and I have some new things on the table. I've been talking a lot lately with Wesley Eggebrecht and we have decided to go in and use each other to get inspired and produce more outside of our jobs. A new site called "36 Pyramids" is going to be the place to go to not only see new stuff by myself and Wes but his brother Ryan also. It's only maybe a week in the making but we are already rockin' on some new projects.

I just finished my first personal piece in about 3 months, give or take. It can be viewed here:

Keep an eye out for a more consistent stream of new work!

New Stuff!

A couple things I have been up too! First is a new comic page (page 6) for the fun collaborative project me and Chris Hoobler are working (Check out his stuff in my links!) and the middle three are experiments and such for The Hallway Show blog and last is just a character based on a "Father Time" theme. Exciting things coming up soon!

Gone Fishin'

So I have been stalling on posting this comic project for a little while now but have finally decided it was time. I spent a good chunk of time working on every stage of this and it was a pretty long process, I enjoyed every bit of it. I plan on eventually stretching this out to a 32 page story. Lemme know what you think!
An 8 page story following an old mans fishing adventure.

Pencils

Some tests to see which technique I wanted to use for the linework.
